A Ouija pointer, often called simply "Ouija", is a divinatory tool used to supposedly communicate with spirits or supernatural entities.
The name "Ouija" is derived from the combination of the French and German words for "oui" (yes): "oui" and "ja". This object usually consists of a game board marked with letters of the alphabet, numbers, words (such as "yes" and "no"), and sometimes symbols, as well as a pointer usually called “board”. Participants place their hands on the planchette, placed on the board, and ask questions to which they hope to receive answers from the afterlife.
The idea behind the Ouija pointer is that participants allow the spirits to guide the planchette to point to the appropriate letters or words to form answers.
