Witches Alphabet / Runes of Honorius

This alphabet is still very mysterious. We just know that it is most used by wizards and witches to code their messages, their writings, their books. It can also be used for talismans.

This alphabet, also called Runes of Honorius or witches' alphabet, emerged during the Middle Ages during cabalistic studies by magicians.

This alphabet is very powerful and you can still use it to make amulets by engraving letters on stone or wood or even on a candle to cast spells.

Ancient beliefs reported that this alphabet was invented by Honorius of Thebes during the Hellenic period. But there is no historical evidence that would prove this fact.

We find for the first time traces of this alphabet in the third book of Occult Philosophy written by Cornelius Agrippa, advisor to Charles V.

This book was published in Antwerp in Latin in 1531. Agrippa mentions that this alphabet was attributed to Honorius by the magician Peter de Abano (commonly called Petrus de Abano), an Italian writer who lived from 1250 to 1316.

The English writer, Francis Barret, reproduced the Thebian alphabet in his book “The Magus” (II, Part I, Chapter XIV).
The witches' alphabet was originally used to encrypt the formulas of alchemists and magicians.

Today this alphabet is still used in American Wicca (witchcraft).
